What is a Busy book or a Busy Binder?

A Busy book or a Busy binder is a collection of interactive learning activity sheets. It contains colorful visuals to capture the child’s attention. It is hands-on and mess-free for children to explore and solve activities. 

A busy binder helps in learning the basics and promotes the development of literacy and numeracy skills, especially in toddlers. It keeps children engaged and busy for a long time – hence the name busy book or busy binder. It also contains complex or advanced topics for older children to boost their learning

Some pages of busy books have write-n-wipe activities. A dry eraser marker is used to write which then can be easily wiped with a tissue or dry eraser. The learning pages are laminated and velcro is used to match, sort, or solve the activities – this is what makes it hands-on and interactive. The pages are either bound to make a busy book or inserted in a binder to make a busy binder. The Busy binder activities are reusable (because of lamination) and thus last for a very long time.

Busy binders can be based on age, subject, topic, theme, seasons, and even holidays. Busy books help toddler/preschooler and kindergarten-age children learn and practice new educational concepts/skills. Many of the busy books can be done by the child with minimal assistance from the parent.

What age is a Busy Book for?

Busy books are ideal for toddlers, preschoolers, and even kindergarten-age children. 

In other words, busy books are best for 2 to 6 years old. However, there are no age boundaries to use busy books. You can introduce busy books as early as 1 year old and use them till the age the child will be interested. 

Toddler Busy Book

Toddler busy books are best for 1 year old and 2 years old children. It includes lots of matching activities to keep them busy and engaged in fun learning. 

Preschool Busy Book

Preschool busy books are ideal for 3 years old and 4 years old children. It includes some basic life concepts, reading, writing, numbers, shapes, colors, animals, science and so much more. 

Kindergarten Busy Book

Kindergarten busy books are best for 4 years old to 6 years old. It includes advanced topics like CVC words, addition, sorting, counting, etc.

Theme-based busy books are usually favorite among kids as they have the freedom to incorporate their favorite theme into educational activities.

My journey of making busy books

My journey of making busy books started during the pandemic when my older one was 4 years old and my younger one was 2 years old. 

My first designed busy book was very minimal and simple but was a BIG hit with my kids. It kept them busy for a long time. From that day onwards, I improvised and tested all kinds of busy books with my kids. I share my best busy books with cute and colorful illustrations in my Learning Packs shop.
